Liss Smith
PsychotherapistLiss has a warm, supportive manner and uses an integrative approach rooted in the philosophy of person-centred counselling. Her practice draws on her values of inclusivity, open-mindedness, and sex positivity. With a deep appreciation for the complexity that comes with being human, she hopes to create a safe space for people from all walks of life to be heard, seen, and understood.
With a previous degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Sussex, and being someone of mixed ethnic and cultural heritage, Liss understands the significance of society’s impact on the individual’s psyche. She is especially interested in working with individuals who have felt themselves to be at the margins - including those from different cultural backgrounds, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and adult industry workers.
Liss’s holistic lens also takes into consideration the mind-body connection and the role of nature in promoting wellbeing. Building on her experiences in holistic healing, her therapeutic approach is relational in nature and draws on perspectives from attachment theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and intrapsychic theories. She has a particular interest in assisting clients who are wanting to explore identity, work towards habit change, address substance use challenges and move towards self-compassion.
Liss believes in affirming and harnessing individuals’ strengths to help them navigate the difficulties they face in life and move towards their goals. Liss holds a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and is a PACFA Certified Practising Counsellor.
She sees clients at Integrative Psychology & Medicine’s East Melbourne clinic and also offers telehealth appointments.
